History

In 1985 the first Göteborg Library Fair was arranged purely as a trade fair for librarians. The number of visitors was just over 5 000.

The following year the fair opened up for the publishing trade as a whole - as well as for the book loving public. The number of visitors rose dramatically to 25 000!

Throughout the years the fair has developed into an important cultural manifestation and has today become Northern Europe's largest book fair, with more than 100,000 visitors every year.

Göteborg Book Fair (The company name: Bok & Bibliotek i Norden AB) has also produced a number of other different cultural fairs, such as:

The Photographic Fair 1991, 1993, 1995
The Theatre Fair 1995
The Nordic Museum Fair 1996 and 1998
The Music Fair 1996

The Nordic School Leader Congress, a biannual new fair, was organized by the Göteborg Book Fair for the first time in 2005, and was organized for the second time mid March 2007. The next congress will be held in March 2009.
