Facts about Göteborg Book Fair

Göteborg Book Fair is the biggest meeting place for the book trade in the Nordic countries. The first Fair was held in 1985 and had 5,000 visitors. Since then, it has grown year after year and in 2008 no fewer than 101,000 visits were registered during the four days.

The 25th Fair will take place from 24th September to the 27th September, 2009. The Göteborg Book Fair 2008 will focus on Spain.

31% of the visitors are from the trade and the two largest groups are teachers and librarians.
Göteborg Book Fair includes three sections running in parallel:
- A comprehensive conference programme of seminars and events.
- Several exhibition halls with ongoing activities in the stands and on special stages.
- International Rights Centre for publishers and agents buying and selling rights.

No other book fair in the world offers such a comprehensive conference programme as the Göteborg Book Fair. In 2008 it comprised 442 seminars with more than 780 participants from 30 countries, over four days. In addition to the seminars, there were events on the different stages and activities in the exhibition stands throughout the whole fair. In total, more than 2,400 programmes with 1,850 participating speakers at the fair.

More than 940 exhibitors cover most sectors of the book trade, including fiction, non-fiction, books for children and young adults, educational books, picture-books, magazines, comic books, libraries, art and much, much more.

Göteborg Book Fair takes place at the Swedish Exhibition Centre located in the centre of the city of Göteborg. Gothia Towers, the largest hotel in the Nordic region, is also located in the Exhibition Centre.
