Multitude of new meetings at Meetings@TUR
Meetings@TUR continues to grow, just like the number of Convention Bureaus
in Sweden. Thursday's agenda was largely taken up by Meetings Day and many exciting meetings took place throughout the fair..
The H hall is busy with people mingling at the simple yet stylish standing
and sitting areas. The air is thick with conversation, business talks and
negotiations. On the stairs delegates wearing 3D specs are watching a film
in deep concentration.
Lise Backby Moberg, who is responsible for Meetings@TUR is more than happy
about the way the activity has developed since it started three years ago.
"We've found a simple form for allowing the industry to meet. You save time
and cost since you don't need a stand to meet here."
The number of exhibitors at Meetings@TUR has grown from 20 in the first year
to 80 this year. Many of this year's exhibitors are Convention Bureaus, one
of them from Luleå where Martin Theorin is the sales manager.
"A few years ago there were only three Convention Bureaus in Stockholm,
Gothenburg and Malmö. Now you find them in 20 locations all over Sweden. Our
job is to sell and market our respective city as a meeting destination, and
to back meeting organisers in the process to get the meeting here."
All of Thursday was Meetings Day, where several of the country's most
prominent personalities from the meeting industry shared their experiences.
Seminars were mixed with panel discussions where the delegates were given
the opportunity to network and meet up with others with experience from
hosting large meetings. Among the speakers were Henrik von Arnold, Stockholm
Convention Bureau and Lennart Johansson, Gothenburg Convention Bureau, who
talked about the role of a Convention Bureau.
