Three hot trends warm up Scanpack 2009

The plans for Scanpack 2009 are taking shape – and interest from the entire Scandinavian packaging industry is great, which can be seen in the booking status.

The focus will be on three areas of interest: Biopackaging, RFID and packaging design.

“Today we see a brand new trend for intelligent packaging, where RFID is the key not only to traceability but also to smarter and more efficient flows of goods and packaging,” says Siv Edlund, senior advisor for Scanpack 2009.

Focus on bioplastics at Scanpack 2009

Interest in biopackaging is steadily rising, which will be visible at Scanpack 2009.

“We're working with the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre to build an Innovation Expo, where we share 850 square meters of space with the RFID section. Exhibitors of packaging made of what are known as bioplastics will occupy a large area at the Expo. We will also offer free seminars,” says Bo Wallteg, editor-in-chief of the publication nord emballage.

The Biopack 2007 conference, which was held in Gothenburg, was a great success with 140 participants. This year’s conference was held 17 September – also in Gothenburg.

RFID hot topic at Scanpack 2009

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a hot topic in the packaging industry. Many view this technology as a replacement for the bar code, but we are not there – yet.

However, there are plenty of examples of the many advantages of RFID in the logistics chain and inventory management.

“The technology offers tremendous business value,” said Bo Wallteg, editor-in-chief of the publication nord emballage when he introduced RFID-pack in Stockholm.

Retail trade takes charge of packaging

Retail trade has taken charge of packaging and therefore packaging design in Sweden. The significance of physical design is growing at the expense of graphic design. For the individual package, demands for function and practicality take precedence over capturing the attention of the customer.

True or false? At any rate, this is strong trend in Sweden, according to Staffan Winberg, CEO of Pri Pack Communication and one of those who know which way the wind is blowing with respect to packaging design – both regionally and internationally.

Visionary veteran exhibits at Scanpack for 14th time

“Scanpack is the hub and centre of the packaging industry. We are therefore hosting our exhibit there for the 14th consecutive time in 2009,” says Sven O. C. Olesen, founder and owner of Danish packaging heavyweight, Soco System.

“And the trade fair is also a unique opportunity for us to network.” 

Sven O. C. Olesen doesn't come for the packaging materials and machinery; its everything else that's happening at the trade fair.
